Made famous by the Buddy Rich Band, this medium-up swing chart is "Big Band Swing" at its best! There is plenty of solo space for alto, piano, and trumpet. It also features a terrific saxophone section soli. This was played by Buddy's band a lot and will surely get your audience to pay attention right out of the gate.
My Foolish Heart - arr. Bob Curnow
An arrangement of one of the most popular melodies ever, Curnow sets it very much in the style of the "Kenton Ballad," featuring the trombone section in a slow, richly harmonized piece. The lush, warm harmonies and orchestration work beautifully with this tune as it also features solo space for trumpet. 5-5-5-3
It's Just Talk - Pat Metheny / arr. Curnow
This arrangement of Metheny's tune is perfect for a big band setting and just ROARS! The energy in this chart hits you from the opening note and takes you all the way to the closing one. It can feature up to 3 soloists, has great changes and exciting ensemble writing, and it isn't all that difficult to play. The trumpet range is reasonable, and so are the rhythms. 5-4-4-4
