Looking for a contemporary edge to your festival program? These 3 charts will provide your band with a contemporary feel covering 3 different styles: swing, ballad and funk. Your band is going to love playing these charts. Your audiences will love them even more!
Sierra Music recommends programming your festival performance in the following order:
Chet's Call - Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays This never-before recorded piece by Metheny & Mays was resurrected by Bob Curnow from a 1985 radio transcription. A side of Pat & Lyle that is rarely heard these days, this wonderful swing tune has solo space for alto, trumpet (or trombone), and drums. This is a very playable piece with limited range concerns. 5-4-4-4
A Time For Love - arr. Hank Levy Another masterful chart by Levy, this was written in the later years of the Kenton band. It features the lush, 5-way trombone sound for which the band was so well known. There is a short (written) piano solo, a strong ensemble (trumpets do not play very high at all), and a quiet ending. 5-5-5-3
Chicken Polo - Les Hooper A terrific, energetic funk chart! This is a rhythmic creation by Les which is the epitome of the big band funk style. There is lots of space for optional solos. Rhythm parts are mostly written out. 5-4-4-4
