It would be difficult to find a more perfect holiday concert opener than this new arrangement by Rich DeRosa.  Curnow has adapted the amazing vocal arrangements of David Maddux for the jazz ensemble.  A medium latin groove setting for a marvelous trombone solo on the melody.

The 1961 Capitol Records recording of Christmas music was a smash hit for Kenton. DeRosa’s delightful, contemporary setting on “God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen” has a moderate samba feel and features the soprano saxophone throughout.  A loping, swinging version, featuring alto saxophone throughout.

Bob Curnow has taken the brilliant arrangements done for the Stan Kenton Orchestra by Ralph Charmichael and created a medley of fresh, modern versions containing Angels We Have Heard on High, The Holly and the Ivy, O, Tannenbaum and Good King Wenceslas.
