Sweet Spot, one of Bill Holman’s originals written
for his own band (a feature for the late Carl Saunders) starts out easy with a
cool vamp-like intro leading into the trumpet solo. There is also solo space
for tenor saxophone. The feel is mostly straight eighths with the occasional swing
section interrupting that feel. It’s really hard to describe the many beautiful
things that happen in this piece. Suffice to say it was created by the master. Doubles
in the woodwind section require flute, clarinet and soprano saxophone for short
periods of time. This can easily be converted to all standard saxophone parts. Medium-Advanced. 5-4-4-3
