Finally, Slide Hampton's incredible music is in print. This fantastic chart was written for the Maynard Ferguson Dream Band. This is actually one of Slide's most favorite pieces of all the magnificent music he has written over the years (according to Slide). It is set in a medium swing feel with solo space for tenor saxophone and trumpet. Slide created a beautiful, soft ensemble chorus that is immediately followed by the same thing played as a strong "shout" chorus. "Foxy" is one of those iconic charts in the history of big band composition. This chart should be in every big band jazz library. 5-4-4-3 or original instrumentation
