Sierra Music Publications
Great Big Band Jazz Charts
Sierra Music Publications was created in 1976 by Bob Curnow to help
satisfy the continuing need for high quality literature for jazz big
bands and other ensembles. It has remained a one-owner company.
Although the perceived focus of the company has been to publish
music from the many professional big bands in jazz (i.e. Stan Kenton,
Bill Holman, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Pat Metheny, Maynard
Ferguson, Oliver Nelson, Les Hooper and others) , Sierra Music has also
commissioned new music from many new, outstanding composers over the
years (i.e. Dan Haerle, Ellen Rowe, Fred Stride, Fred Sturm and others).
The mix of classic, recorded, professional-level charts with the new,
original pieces which have been written for younger bands makes the
Sierra Music catalog unique in the world. We continue to reach into the
contemporary world with projects such as the many wonderful arrangements
based on the music of Radiohead. Another unique factor is that none of
that music has ever gone out-of-print.
The company started with two pieces in 1976 and has grown to
over 750 pieces now in print. Along with big band charts, there
are also pieces written for 9-piece band (5 horns, 4 rhythm), trombone
quartet and percussion ensemble.
Sierra Music Publications ships music to just about every
country in the world. Shipping is usually done within 24 hours of
receiving an order.
